Fauzia Minallah
Fauzia Minallah was born in Quetta and earned her M.Sc. in Communication Design in 1991 from Pratt Institute, New York. Her animation for children, ‘Amai, the Bird of Light,’ has been featured at festivals both in Pakistan and abroad. Her animation, ‘The Lost Lullaby,’ was showcased at COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh. Fauzia also holds the distinction of being Pakistan’s first editorial/political cartoonist and has received a national award for her cartoons. Furthermore, she plays a pivotal role in reviving the dying craft of Chitarkari, or slate engraving, from Gangar hills in Hazara and is actively engaged in preserving old and historical trees in Islamabad as ‘Natural Monuments.’ Fauzia Minallah paints, sculpts, creates animations, and installs works in various materials and settings to document, predict, and warn. She endeavours to point towards a sustainable path for the human species. As a multi-faceted and talented artist, she has been exhibiting her work in Pakistan and abroad since 1980. According to Rumana Husain in The News, ‘For Fauzia, it is not only the Earth that is a giving mother; the trees are feminine too. A tree-hugger herself, she draws inspiration from the large and ancient trees that have nurtured our land, as well as from other tenacious Pakistani women.’
